Apply some distressed ink with an ink applicator. You can layer the ink until you get the effect that you want.

Paint The Envelopes
First, add a layer of gesso and let the envelope dry. Choose some acrylic paint more than three. You can scrap the paint on with an old gift card or credit card. Or you can do any number of art journal backgrounds in miniature on your envelopes.
Use Ink Sprays
Spary your envelopes with ink sprays and let them dry.
Stencil The Envelopes
Use some watered-down paint as a base for the envelope. It would be smart to add some gesso on the envelope too before adding the base. Then use any media that you have available to stencil a design on the envelope.
Stamp A Design
Cover the envelope and let it dry. Then paint a base of slightly watered-down acrylic paint. Finally, stamp and color a design on the envelope. You can color the stamped design or leave it as it is.
